New Radiolab episode: The Bad Show ›

Radiolab:

Cruelty, violence, badness… This episode of Radiolab, we wrestle with the dark side of human nature, and ask whether it’s something we can ever really understand, or fully escape.

Kristen Schaal is a horse! Kristen Schaal is a horse! Well, look at her dance! Well, look at her go! Look at her dance like a horse!”

It’s always exciting when a new Radiolab episodes comes on air.

… And excellent one too!

Video made by Everynone, inspired by Radiolab’s Desperately Seeking Symmetry episode.

Filmmakers Will Hoffman, Daniel Mercadante, and Julius Metoyer III play with our yearning for balance, and reveal how beautiful imperfect matches can be.

Radiolab’s back in top form with their latest one-hour episode: “The Good Show” is about altruism — just another excuse for Jad Abumrad and Robert Krulwich to be poetic, silly and naive. It had been a while since I really got my kicks out of a Radiolab session (“Animal Minds” was the last one-hour ep I truly enjoyed), so I’m really glad this one came along.

Title: Medulla Oblongata Artist: Buke and Gass 10 plays

Buke and Gass - Medulla Oblongata

The buke and the bass are home-made instruments: Arone Dyer (the gal) plays the buke, which is a bass ukulele, and Aron Sanchez (the guy) plays the gass, a hybrid between a guitar and a bass.

Check out the fun little interview they gave on Radiolab. I like the way Arone defines their sound, using the image of a galloping horse jumping from one scene to another.

I quite like this short tune: the sound is experimental but accessible. I dig the unexpected turns the song takes, and Arone is right: It does feel like you’re on a galloping horse.

You can download “Medulla Oblongata” on their web site.
